Minimal-footprint Middleware for the Creation of Qualified Signatures
نویسندگان
چکیده
Qualified electronic signatures are recognized as being equivalent to handwritten signatures and are supported by EU legislation. They require a secure signature creation device (SSCD) such as a smart card. Unfortunately, there are neither standard means for the integration of SSCDs with Web applications, nor are the exiting means widely deployed. Web application providers are still faced with a lack of deployment of such means and a lack of integration with standard software. This paper will present a novel approach to address these issues by a middleware that does not require users to install dedicated software for the creation of qualified electronic signatures. The middleware is deployed as a web application and splits the signature creation process into two parts: One part is performed on the server side and the other part (requiring access to functions of the secure signature creation device) is deployed and executed as a lightweight component in the user’s browser

Optimizing a CORBA IIOP Protocol Engine for Minimal Footprint Multimedia Systems
Communication software for hand-held devices must be flexible and efficient to deliver the necessary Quality of Service (QoS) to multimedia applications such as real-time audio and video, video on-demand, electronic mail and fax, and Internet telephony. CORBA Object Request Brokers (ORBs) are an emerging middleware standard targeted for distributed applications. The stringent memory constraints...
متن کاملOptimizing a CORBA Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) Engine for Minimal Footprint Embedded Multimedia Systems
To support the quality of service (QoS) requirements of embedded multimedia applications, such as real-time audio and video, electronic mail and fax, and Internet telephony, off-theshelf middleware like CORBA must be flexible, efficient, and predictable. Moreover, stringent memory constraints imposed by embedded system hardware necessitates a minimal footprint for middleware that supports multi...
متن کاملQualified Mobile Server Signature
A legal basis for the use of electronic signatures exists since the introduction of qualified electronic signatures in EU Directive 1999/93/EC. Although considered as key enablers for e-Government and e-Commerce, qualified electronic signatures are still not widely used. Introducing a mobile component addresses most of the shortcomings of existing qualified signature approaches but poses certai...
متن کاملTowards a CLI Assembly Format for Embedded Systems
Bytecode-based Middleware and virtual execution environments have become popular in development for embedded Systems. The ECMA/ISO Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) specifies a bytecode-based execution environment (Common Language Runtime) and a comprehensive class library. As Microsoft’s CLI implementation the .NET Compact Framework was built for high-end mobile devices. It would be reasona...
متن کاملUsing Mixins to Build a Flexible Lightweight Middleware for Ubiquitous Computing
Ubiquitous computing is a challenge for the design of middleware. The reasons are resource constraints, mobility, heterogeneity, etc., just to name a few. We argue that such middleware has to be tailored to the application scenario as well as to the target platform. Such tailormade middleware has to be be built from minimal fine-grained components, and the system structure must be highly config...
